Tour Overview

Discover the beauty of Tanzania's northern safari circuit on an unforgettable 2 Days Premium Camping Tanzania Safari with Mbega African Safaris. This short wildlife adventure takes you to Tarangire National Park and the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, combining exciting game drives, magnificent scenery and an authentic overnight camping experience.

Designed for travellers with limited time who still want to experience Tanzania's incredible wildlife, this two-day itinerary offers a rewarding introduction to the African wilderness. From large elephant herds roaming beneath ancient baobab trees in Tarangire to the wildlife-rich floor of Ngorongoro Crater, every moment brings a new opportunity to connect with nature.

Your journey begins in Arusha, where you will meet your professional safari driver-guide before travelling toward Tarangire National Park. The park is renowned for its impressive elephant population, beautiful savannah landscapes and diverse wildlife. During your game drive, look for giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, antelopes and the predators that inhabit this remarkable ecosystem.

After exploring Tarangire, continue toward the Karatu area for an overnight stay at a designated campsite. Your camping experience allows you to enjoy Tanzania's natural surroundings while benefiting from organized meals and the support of your safari team.

On the second day, travel into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend approximately 600 metres into the famous Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage landscape is among Africa's most remarkable wildlife destinations, offering opportunities to observe lions, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, flamingos and, with some luck, endangered black rhinoceroses.

Throughout the safari, travel in a specially equipped 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof for excellent wildlife viewing and photography. Your experienced local guide will share knowledge about animal behaviour, ecosystems and the conservation efforts that protect Tanzania's natural heritage.

This premium camping safari focuses on the quality of the wildlife experience, attentive guiding and practical camping comfort rather than luxury lodge accommodation.

Whether you are visiting Tanzania for the first time, extending your Mount Kilimanjaro adventure or planning a short wildlife escape, this itinerary provides an exciting introduction to two of the country's most celebrated safari destinations.

Tour Plan Itineraries

Day 01Arusha to Tarangire National Park⌄

Your two-day Tanzania camping safari begins with a morning pickup from your hotel or agreed meeting point in Arusha. After meeting your professional safari driver-guide, depart toward Tarangire National Park, one of northern Tanzania's most beautiful wildlife destinations.

The drive takes approximately two to three hours, depending on traffic and your departure location. Along the way, enjoy views of local villages, open countryside, Maasai settlements and the changing landscapes of northern Tanzania.

Upon arriving at Tarangire National Park, your guide will complete the entrance procedures before beginning your first exciting game drive.

Tarangire is particularly famous for its large elephant population and spectacular baobab trees. These enormous trees, some hundreds of years old, create a distinctive landscape that makes the park an excellent destination for wildlife photography.

As you explore the park's network of tracks, look for elephant families moving across the savannah, giraffes feeding on acacia trees, buffaloes grazing in open grasslands and zebras travelling alongside wildebeest.

The Tarangire River is an important water source for the park's animals, particularly during the dry season. Wildlife often gathers around the riverbanks, creating rewarding opportunities for observation and photography.

Your driver-guide will help you identify different animal species while explaining their behaviour, feeding habits and relationships within the ecosystem.

Predators such as lions, leopards and cheetahs also inhabit the park, although sightings depend on wildlife movements and conditions on the day.

Around midday, stop at an authorized picnic area to enjoy a packed lunch surrounded by the beautiful natural environment.

After lunch, continue your afternoon game drive through different sections of the park. The varied landscape includes open plains, seasonal wetlands, wooded areas and magnificent ancient baobab trees.

Your guide will plan the route according to available time and recent wildlife activity to help make the most of your safari experience.

Later in the afternoon, leave Tarangire National Park and travel toward your designated campsite in the Karatu area, near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Upon arrival, settle into your camping accommodation and enjoy the peaceful evening atmosphere.

Dinner will be prepared by the safari team, giving you an opportunity to relax and share stories about your first day in the Tanzanian wilderness.

Spend the night at the campsite, resting before your early departure for Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 02Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive and Return to Arusha⌄

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before departing toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, one of Tanzania's most celebrated wildlife destinations.

The morning journey takes you through the scenic highlands of Karatu, where green farmland, rolling hills and forested landscapes provide a beautiful contrast to the previous day's savannah scenery.

Upon reaching the Ngorongoro Conservation Area entrance, your guide will complete the necessary entry procedures before continuing toward the crater rim.

From the rim, enjoy spectacular views of the vast Ngorongoro Crater, an enormous volcanic caldera formed millions of years ago.

On clear mornings, the scenery is particularly impressive, with sweeping views across the crater floor, surrounding highlands and distant wildlife habitats.

Your safari vehicle will then descend approximately 600 metres to the crater floor, where an extraordinary wildlife experience awaits.

Ngorongoro Crater is home to a remarkable concentration of African wildlife. Its diverse habitats include open grasslands, freshwater wetlands, woodland areas and seasonal lakes, supporting numerous animal species throughout the year.

During your game drive, look for lions resting in the grass, large African buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, warthogs and different species of antelope.

The crater is also one of Tanzania's important habitats for endangered black rhinoceroses. Although sightings are never guaranteed, the opportunity to observe these rare animals makes Ngorongoro an especially rewarding wildlife destination.

Elephants, particularly mature bulls, are occasionally seen moving through the crater's woodland and grassland areas.

Around the wetlands and lakes, you may encounter hippos, waterbirds and flamingos, depending on water levels and seasonal conditions.

Your guide will navigate the crater's established game-viewing tracks, helping you appreciate both the wildlife and the extraordinary geological features that make this conservation area unique.

Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated location inside the crater before continuing your game drive.

After completing your wildlife exploration, ascend the crater wall and begin your return journey toward Arusha.

Along the way, enjoy views of the Ngorongoro Highlands and surrounding countryside as your two-day safari adventure draws to a close.

Arrive in Arusha in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on road conditions and the time spent on your game drive.

Your guide will drop you off at your hotel or an agreed location in Arusha.

This marks the end of your 2 Days Premium Camping Tanzania Safari with Mbega African Safaris.
