Located approximately 30-40 minutes outside of Moshi are the Materuni waterfalls, making it an ideal excursion for those with limited time who still want to experience the natural beauty of the Tanzanian region. These impressive falls stand at 150 meters tall, offering a captivating sight to behold.
The journey begins with a walk from Materuni Village to the waterfall, lasting around 30-40 minutes. Along the way, you'll encounter smaller waterfalls and observe the intricate waterways that form part of the local farmers' irrigation system, used for cultivating coffee, bananas, and various fruits and vegetables.
Materuni village is renowned for its coffee production, alongside other perishable goods like yams, sugar, maize, and beans. During your visit, you'll have the opportunity to learn about the coffee cultivation process, from seed to cup. Participate in picking coffee beans, removing their husks, and grinding them into aromatic granules.
Afterward, indulge in a freshly brewed cup of coffee, enjoying the fruits of your labor. Additionally, gain insights into the lifestyle of the Chagga tribe, including their housing arrangements, culinary traditions, and animal husbandry practices. This immersive experience offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region.
