Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Moshi town, where you'll meet your tour operator and have a pre-climb briefing. Rest and prepare for the climb.
Day 2: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp
Start early in the morning with a drive to the Umbwe Gate, where the trek officially begins. Hike through dense rainforest and steep terrain to reach Umbwe Camp (around 2,900 meters). This is a challenging day, and you'll need to pace yourself.
Day 3: Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp
Leave the rainforest behind as you ascend to Barranco Camp (3,976 meters). Today's trek involves a mix of rocky paths and great views of the surrounding landscape. Barranco Camp is situated in a valley beneath the Barranco Wall.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
This day involves climbing the iconic Barranco Wall, which requires some scrambling but is not technically difficult. After conquering the wall, continue to Karanga Camp (4,035 meters) for the night.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Hike to Barafu Camp (4,673 meters), the base camp for the final ascent to the summit. The landscape becomes more desolate as you reach the alpine desert zone. Rest and prepare for the summit push, which starts very early the next day.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Around midnight, start the challenging ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. Reach the summit just in time to witness a breathtaking sunrise. After taking in the incredible views, begin the descent to Mweka Camp (3,110 meters) for the night.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure
The final day involves a descent through the rainforest from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. Here, you'll receive your summit certificate. Say goodbye to your mountain crew and return to Moshi, where you can celebrate your achievement and rest.
